Students in the Beekeeper Club at Katy High School became concerned about the availability of food for their bees after the once flowering property next door was striped for development. The group applied for an Eco-Audit Grant to increase the density of the native plants on their 5-acre apiary. Aside from improving the habitat and food supply available to their pollinators the apiary will also absorb excess floodwaters and improve air quality in the neighborhood.
