Overview

Katie Boronat and her students at South Miami Middle School help upkeep the gardens that are part of the pine rocklands restoration program. The pine rockland ecosystem is considered a critically imperiled habitat unique to South Florida and the Bahamas. They applied for two Eco-Audit Grants totaling $1,105 to add another 600 square feet of pine rockland habitat to their established habitat which will include birdhouses, seating for classes, and another native pollinator garden. They’re cultivating a thriving ecosystem that protects endangered Atala butterflies and Monarch butterflies.
