Over a dozen employees from Time Warner Cable got their hands dirty in the garden last Friday at Cedars International Academy, a school in north Austin implementing the EcoRise curriculum and training. The volunteers helped with weeding, mulching, putting in gravel, and installing new garden beds for the after school garden program. Time Warner Cable currently sponsors EcoRise curriculum and training for four Austin area schools that serve a high percentage of low income students, including Cedars International Academy.

The school garden is just one way that students at Cedars have learned more about ecology and sustainability. LaTerika Wilson, Cedars International After School Coordinator, attended EcoRise training last fall and has been helping students conduct campus waste audits and design solutions with the help of the Eco-Foundations curriculum. Students will host an Upcycled showcase on campus next month in the new garden grounds wtih the help of mentors from Huston–Tillotson University.

A very big thank you to Time Warner Cable for their community support and a special thanks to LaTerika Wilson, ACE Site Coordinator at Cedars International Academy, for helping to coordinate the activity!
